October

October is the month where the weather turns from warm summer to cold. The summer crops like squash, beans, peppers, eggplants and tomatoes stop growing and turn brown after the first frost. They all must be pulled up in the veggie garden and put into the compost pile. The ground is turned awaiting spring when amenities can be added for the next growing season. The bees are checked for the last time until the daytime weather gets above 50 degrees in the spring. The flower garden is trimmed back and all of the vegetative material that has died after the first frost is composted. Fruit trees will loose their leaves and the water requirements for everything will be diminished.
